The Peace Palace, The Hague

Dr.Rina Shahriyani Shahrullah, the Head of Postgraduate Study of Law of Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) visited the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague (Netherlands) in June 2018. The ICJ is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN) that was established in June 1945. The location of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands). During her visit, she was able to listen and watch the history of the Peace Palace and the ICJ, including the development of international law today. The visit was one of the agendas under the UIB Academic Visit and Benchmarking in 5 countries in Europe, namely Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy.

The purpose of the visit is specifically to update the teaching of international at UIB. According to Dr.Shahrullah, law professors and students, particularly those are interested in international law should visit the ICJ and learn about peace and international dispute settlement from the information given in the Peace Palace. The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is also seated there. Hence, by visiting the Peace Palace, they can also obtain information on the PCA as an intergovernmental organization providing a variety of dispute resolution services to the international community.
