Four researchers of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia/LIPI) visited Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) on 28 June 2019 to obtain inputs and insights from the UIB lecturers. The LIPI researchers are Mr.Bayu Setiawan, Ms.Ade Latifa Soetrisno, Ms.Inayah Hidayati, Ms.Irin Oktafiani. The researchers who focus on population studies were welcomed by Dr.Ing.Sabariman (Dean of Technology and Industry Faculty), Dr.Agustina Fitrianingrum (Dean of Economic and Business Faculty) and Rina Shahriyani Shahrullah,Ph.D (Head of Postgraduate Study of Law). Both parties discussed about the employment situation and conditions in Batam City. Dr.Sabariman explained that foreign companies are still operating in Batam City even though the number of foreign investors have been declined lately. He emphasized that UIB as an education institution has accommodated and responded the needs of industries in Batam City. Therefore, the design of UIB curriculums has involved industries, users and other relevant institutions to enrich the curriculum contents. Dr. Agustina Fitrianingrum stated English and Chinese are compulsory subjects in UIB, so UIB graduates may compete not only locally but also internationally. She further said that in order to experience international exposures, UIB has sent students to a number of countries in Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China). UIB has also received students from those countries under the cultural, language or collaborative learning programs. Dr.Rina Shahrullah added that students are not merely equipped by knowledge, a number of skills including life skills are also given to them under the community service program.
