UIB LECTURERS SPEAK ON THE IMPORT OF USED CLOTHING IN BATAM CITY AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY

Dr.Elza Syarief and Dr.Rina Shahrullah, the lecturers of Postgraduate Study of Law, Universitas Internasional Batam presented their paper on ‘Ineffectiveness of the Indonesian Legal Instruments Against  the Import of Used Clothing in Batam City, Indonesia’ in the 10th Academic International Conference on Interdisciplinary Legal Studies on 7 March 2019 in Oxford University, United Kingdom. They argued that the existence of legal instruments (Law No.7 of 2014 concerning Trade and the Regulation of Trade Ministry No. 51/M-DAG/PER/7/2015 concerning Prohibition to Import Used Clothing) are not effectively implemented in Batam City. They also cause a dilemma for Batam City because the business of imported used clothing supports the Batam City economy and constitutes a source of livelihood for most of Batam City community. The international conference was attended by 20 countries around the world (Europe, Asia, Australia, USA, the Middle East).  The keynote speaker is Dr.Liz Curran, an Associate Professor of the Australian National University (ANU). The closing remarks were given by Prof. Karen Kressenberg of Martin Methodist College, USA.
