On December 7, 2024, students of the Master of Management Program Batch 23 from Universitas Internasional Batam carried out Community Service activities with the theme “Community Empowerment Strategies and Sustainable Tourism Village Development through the Concept of Community Based Tourism (CBT) as Sustainable Development Goals” at Kampung Tua Bakau Serip Tourism Village, Nongsa District. This activity aims to introduce the concept of community-based tourism (CBT) which focuses on empowering local communities to participate in the sustainable development of tourism villages.
The students explained the strategies that can be applied by the people of Kampung Tua Bakau Serip Tourism Village to manage their natural and cultural tourism potential. Mr. Alzi as one of the student representatives said, “Through the implementation of Community Based Tourism, we hope that the people of Kampung Tua Bakau Serip Tourism Village can become the main driver in the development of a sustainable tourism village, so that economic welfare can increase along with the preservation of the local environment and culture.”
Mr. Gerry, as the manager of the Old Village Tourism Village of Bakau Serip responded, “We are very grateful for the assistance and knowledge provided. The concept presented really opened our horizons on tourism management that is not only profitable but also preserves the culture and nature of our village.”
The event concluded with an interactive discussion and Q&A session, where participants provided input and suggestions on appropriate empowerment strategies for their villages. This activity is expected to make a real contribution to realizing sustainable development in the Kampung Tua Bakau Selip Tourism Village, as well as strengthening the role of the community as the main actor in the development of community-based tourism.
