“International General Lecture on Gender Equality” in Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, Turkey

As part of the commitment to international academic exchange and collaboration, the Faculty of Law at Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB), Indonesia, participated in an international general lecture hosted by Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, a public university located in the city of Bolu, Turkey. The event, which took place in June 2025 at the İzzet Baysal Campus in Gölköy, centered on the theme Gender Equality, and featured speakers and researchers from both institutions.

Representing Universitas Internasional Batam, Assoc. Prof. Rina Shahriyani Shahrullah, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Law, delivered a presentation on the international activities and community engagement projects conducted by UIB’s master of Laws students. The lecture also discussed the university’s practical-based approach to gender awareness, policy support, and the inclusion of gender-sensitive perspectives within academic programs and legal community services.

The session was warmly welcomed by the Vice Rector of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, Prof. Dr. Kamil Gürel, and the Head of the Language Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mesut Kuleli expressed their appreciation for the exchange of ideas and cross-cultural learning opportunities. The discussion also opened room for exploring future academic collaborations, particularly on topics related to women’s rights, social justice, and legal frameworks supporting gender equality in both Indonesia and Turkey.

During the session, a PowerPoint presentation showcased several community engagement programs (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat – PKM) involving UIB students and the law faculty. The presentation included examples of legal literacy outreach on marriage law, women’s empowerment in economic activities, and youth education on digital safety, which resonated with participants from Bolu University.

“This session was not only about exchanging knowledge, but also about building shared values between academic communities from different parts of the world,” said Assoc. Prof. Rina Shahriyani Shahrullah, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of integrating gender equality into every level of legal education and practice. She further noted, “Through community service initiatives, our students are not only trained to think critically about law, but also to act responsibly as advocates for inclusive development. Gender equality is not just a concept to be discussed—it is a principle that must be implemented in daily life, especially through legal empowerment at the grassroots level.”

The event concluded with a lively discussion, photo session, and informal exchange between the delegations. Both universities agreed to maintain communication for future collaboration, research, and mobility programs. The general lecture served as a meaningful step in strengthening international academic ties and promoting shared advocacy for gender justice across institutions.
