Seeing these words—”Nurturing talent for the world, striving for national prosperity”—etched itself into my memory as more than just a motto. It was a powerful call to action that reshaped how I viewed my education, urging me to think beyond personal achievements and embrace the responsibility of contributing to both my country and the world. In a world where national growth and global cooperation are deeply intertwined, this message feels more relevant than ever. It serves as a reminder that education is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about preparing to confront the challenges of our time and lifting society to new heights. Even now, that message remains vivid, a constant reminder that education is not just about learning, but about empowering oneself to make a meaningful difference.
As a Law Science student, stepping into the world of archaeology felt like venturing into an entirely new universe. Despite the stark contrast to my academic background, my deep passion for history made this opportunity profoundly significant. Immersing myself in China’s ancient past, within the very country where that history unfolded, was a dream come true. The program provided a rich, hands-on experience with Chinese history and culture, offering insights that surpassed anything I could have learned from textbooks alone. The thrill of exploring ancient artifacts and engaging in archaeological research, so distinct from legal theory, captivated my imagination and deepened my appreciation for how civilizations are studied. Additionally, the chance to learn a new language added an extra layer of excitement and enrichment to my summer school experience, making it both intellectually and personally rewarding.
Another unforgettable aspect of the summer school was the chance to engage directly with archaeological research. From working with microscopes to studying artifacts, I was amazed by the hands-on scientific work that I had never experienced before as a social science student. Beside those academic activities, Shandong University also excelled in offering a range of non-academic activities that greatly enriched my summer school experience. The university organized a variety of excursions designed to immerse us in both the campus environment and the broader cityscape. We began with guided tours of the university’s scenic campus, which showcased its architectural beauty and tranquil surroundings. This was followed by explorations of Qingdao, where we visited renowned landmarks and delved into the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The excursions extended to the heart of Qingdao, where we experienced the vibrant pulse of the city through engaging urban adventures. These activities provided a refreshing counterbalance to academic life, allowing us to connect with the local culture and enjoy the dynamic environment of Qingdao. Overall, these non-academic experiences greatly enriched our stay, offering a well-rounded perspective of both the university and its surrounding city.
