On Friday, August 8, 2025, Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) welcomed a joint collaborative visit from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) under the theme Joint Collaboration Visit on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development Goals. The event took place at the Grand Center, Building A, UIB, marking an essential step in strengthening international academic and research cooperation.

The visit aimed to enhance synergy in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). During the meeting, each university presented their profile, strengths, and strategic programs. The presence of these leaders and lecturers reflected UIB’s strong commitment to expanding its network of strategic international partnerships.

On this occasion, Ms. Theo, Head of UIB’s International Relations Office, expressed her enthusiasm for building a new partnership with UniSZA. “Since this is UniSZA’s first time visiting UIB, it would be great if we could establish an MoU as a starting point of our collaboration. This will be a good step to build a relationship as new partners,” she said.

For UTM, this visit continued a series of joint activities and collaborations that have been established over the years. For UniSZA, however, this marked their inaugural visit to UIB, opening new opportunities for long-term academic partnerships. During the discussion sessions, representatives from both partner universities shared presentations about their institutions, ongoing SDG initiatives, and visions for AI-based research to address global challenges.

The event was lively and productive, with participants exchanging ideas, exploring concrete programs, and fostering closer ties between institutions. It served as a strategic starting point for sustainable collaboration and reinforced UIB’s position as an active international academic partner contributing to advancements in AI and sustainability.

The meeting concluded with a group photo, symbolising friendship and the shared commitment to move forward toward broader future collaborations.
