On Saturday, 24th of August, 2024, ASEAN Studies Centre Universitas International Batam and Women Working Group hosted the International Webinar on Human Rights and Gender Series 10 with the theme “Access to Health Care.” The event was conducted via Zoom and featured international speakers who discussed various aspects of access to healthcare from the perspectives of human rights and gender.
The forum was moderated by Nukila Evanty from the Women Working Group and Ninne Zahara from the ASEAN Studies Center, who ensured the discussions were smooth and dynamic. Assoc. Prof. Rina Shahrullah, Ph.D., from the Women Studies Center of UIB, served as the Keynote Speaker. In her presentation, she emphasized the importance of equitable access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children, and how public policy plays a crucial role in ensuring this access.
The forum also featured distinguished speakers from various countries, including Dr. Ryoko Kato Hatanaka from Shobi University Japan, who discussed the healthcare system in Japan and the challenges in achieving broader inclusion. Dr. Mustafa Aslam from The Aga Khan University Pakistan provided insights into healthcare access in developing countries, focusing on community-based innovations and approaches.
dr. Fajri Israq, M.A.R.S., M.H., the Director of Graha Hermine Hospital Indonesia, shared his views on the state of healthcare services in Indonesia and the initiatives taken to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare across different regions. Assistant Prof. Man Teng Iong from the University of Macau concluded the session by discussing healthcare policies in East Asia and how these policies can be adapted to enhance healthcare access for all segments of society.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants from various countries had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. This International Webinar provided deep insights into the challenges and solutions related to global healthcare access and reinforced the commitment to advocating for the right to health as a fundamental human right.
