Hi everyone, my name is Octavianus. I am a student at Universitas Internasional Batam. Currently, I am undergoing a student exchange program at I-Shou University in Taiwan. Let me use this opportunity to share the things I’ve observed and experienced so far after arriving in Taiwan for a month.
First of all, I want to talk about the food in Taiwan. Most of them are MSG-free, which is very different from my home country, Indonesia. One thing I’ve noticed here is that there are not many trash bins in public spaces, but the places are still very clean—people here take cleanliness very seriously.
I have also observed that the people here are a bit shy, so we need to take the initiative and start a conversation. Through that, I’ve built up my confidence to take the initiative.
My journey as an Indonesian student in Taiwan has been filled with enriching cultural encounters that have broadened my horizons. Engaging in meaningful dialogues about our differences and similarities, I have come to appreciate the profound impact of cultural exchange. These experiences not only enhance my academic journey but also prepare me for future endeavors where understanding diverse cultures is essential.
