Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) continues to strengthen its role as a global research partner by collaborating with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) on two international research projects under a matching grant scheme. The partnership was officially marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on September 11, 2024, setting the foundation for long-term innovation-driven collaboration between the two institutions.
The collaboration focuses on two key research projects:
- An Enhanced Virtual Tourism Guide Using AI-Based QR Code Application (Research center: UTeM)
- An Improved Destinations Recommendation Optimization Model to Enhance Tourist Experiences and State Economies (Research center: UIB)
Through these studies, UIB and UTeM aim to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the tourism sector by creating innovative solutions that enhance destination accessibility, enrich tourist experiences, and drive regional economic development.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone for UIB in strengthening our research capacity at an international level,” said Dr. Hendi Sama, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science at UIB. “By working closely with UTeM, we aim to develop innovative, technology-driven solutions that not only benefit the academic community but also bring real impact to society, particularly in enhancing tourism experiences.”
Beyond these projects, the partnership opens wider opportunities for academic exchange, technology development, and cross-border innovation between Indonesia and Malaysia. UIB remains committed to fostering impactful collaborations that empower students, researchers, and local communities while supporting sustainable economic growth.
