The Master of Law Program of Universitas Internasional Batam successfully organized Human Rights Webinar Series #15 under the theme “Human Rights in Armed Conflict: The Global Energy Crisis and Its Impact on Economic Rights” on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The webinar was conducted online through Zoom Meeting and brought together scholars, academics, and practitioners from various countries to discuss contemporary human rights issues related to armed conflict and global economic challenges. This international webinar was organized as part of Universitas Internasional Batam’s commitment to promoting global academic discussions on human rights, international law, and sustainable development. The activity also served as a platform for participants to gain broader perspectives regarding the impact of geopolitical conflicts and the global energy crisis on economic rights and social welfare.

The webinar featured several distinguished speakers from international institutions and organizations, namely Prof. Rina S. Shahrullah, Ph.D. from Universitas Internasional Batam, Indonesia; Dr. Shahrizal Mohd Zin, Ph.D. from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia; Nukila Evanty from Women Working Group, Indonesia; Nguyễn Đình Đức, LL.M. from the University of Economics and Law, VNU-HCM, Vietnam; and Prof. Masatoshi Kaimasu from Kobe Women’s University, Japan. The session was moderated by Ninne Zahara Silviani, S.H., M.H. from Universitas Internasional Batam.

Throughout the webinar, the speakers discussed various important issues concerning the relationship between armed conflict, global economic instability, and the protection of human rights. The discussions highlighted how global energy disruptions and international conflicts can affect economic rights, social justice, access to resources, and sustainable development across different countries. Prof. Rina S. Shahrullah emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation and human rights protection mechanisms in responding to global crises. Meanwhile, the other speakers shared comparative perspectives from their respective countries regarding legal frameworks, economic resilience, and the role of governments and international institutions in protecting vulnerable communities during times of conflict and economic uncertainty.

The webinar received enthusiastic participation from students, lecturers, researchers, and members of the public from various academic and professional backgrounds. Interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions further enriched participants’ understanding of the challenges faced by the international community in balancing economic development and human rights protection amid global crises. Through this activity, Universitas Internasional Batam continues to strengthen its role as an internationally connected higher education institution that actively promotes academic collaboration and critical discussions on global human rights issues. It is hoped that this webinar series will continue to encourage greater awareness, interdisciplinary dialogue, and international cooperation in addressing contemporary human rights challenges in the global era..
