The Master of Law Program of Universitas Internasional Batam conducted an international collaborative learning program in partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia under the theme “Law and Human Rights in Business”. The activity was held on April 18 and 30, 2026, involving lecturers and students from both institutions as part of an effort to strengthen international academic collaboration and enrich global legal perspectives.
This collaborative learning program presented distinguished academicians and practitioners who shared insights regarding the integration of human rights principles within business practices and global governance frameworks. The activity featured Prof. Rina S. Shahrullah, S.H., M.CL., Ph.D. from the Master of Law Program of Universitas Internasional Batam, Prof. Madya Dr. Norazlina Abdul Aziz from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, and Dr. Ikmal Hisham Md. Tah, Ph.D. from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

During the first session held on April 18, 2026, Prof. Rina S. Shahrullah delivered a presentation entitled “Introduction to United Nations Global Compact”. The session discussed the importance of sustainability principles, corporate responsibility, and ethical business practices within the framework of international law and global business development. On the same day, Prof. Madya Dr. Norazlina Abdul Aziz presented material entitled “From Voluntary Commitments to Legal Accountability: Integrating SDGs, UNGPs, UNGC and ESG into Business Law and Human Rights Frameworks”. The discussion highlighted the growing importance of integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into corporate legal accountability systems.

Furthermore, the second session held on April 30, 2026 featured Dr. Ikmal Hisham Md. Tah with the presentation entitled “Rights, Profit, and Policy: Comparing the Business and Human Rights Journey in Malaysia and Indonesia”. The session provided comparative perspectives regarding the implementation of business and human rights policies in both countries, including the challenges and opportunities faced by corporations in adapting to international standards and ethical governance practices.
The collaborative learning activity received enthusiastic participation from students of the Master of Law Program Batch 27 at Universitas Internasional Batam. Through interactive discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions, participants gained broader insights into contemporary legal issues related to human rights, sustainability, and responsible business conduct in the global context. Through this international academic collaboration, Universitas Internasional Batam continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing globally oriented education and strengthening international partnerships with overseas universities. This activity is expected to enhance students’ academic competencies, critical thinking skills, and readiness to face global challenges in the fields of law, business, and human rights.
