Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) strengthened cross-cultural interaction through the First Meeting of Japanese Club UIB. Sayaka Takada, a Darmasiswa student from Japan, joined the meeting on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the 2nd Floor Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, UIB, Batam.
The Japanese Club UIB meeting was organized to strengthen relationships among members and provide an opportunity for students to get to know one another, including the club’s management team. The presence of Sayaka also added an international dimension to the first meeting.
As a Japanese student currently participating in the Darmasiswa program at UIB, Sayaka had the opportunity to interact directly with students who share an interest in the Japanese language and culture.
Japanese Club UIB First Meeting Builds Stronger Connections
The Japanese Club UIB meeting began with an opening session and introductions. Participants then joined a Kahoot Quiz as one of the interactive activities prepared for the event.
The program continued with an Art Switch Competition. During the activity, participants worked in groups to create drawings and complete challenges together. The competition encouraged communication and teamwork as members collaborated throughout the activity.
In addition to encouraging creativity, the activity created a relaxed environment for members to interact with one another. The meeting therefore served not only as an organizational activity but also as an opportunity to strengthen connections among students.
Darmasiswa Student from Japan Shares Cultural Interests
Sayaka Takada’s presence became one of the highlights of the Japanese Club UIB meeting. Through direct interaction, members had the opportunity to learn more about a Japanese student experiencing academic and cultural life at UIB.
During the meeting, Sayaka expressed her interest in sharing aspects of Japanese culture with Japanese Club members. She offered to teach Japanese language and Japanese dance to members of the club.
The initiative opens opportunities for Japanese Club UIB to organize language and cultural activities together with an international student. Such interaction can also provide members with a more direct and authentic cross-cultural learning experience.
The presence of a Darmasiswa student from Japan also gives UIB students an opportunity to interact beyond the classroom. Through informal activities and cultural exchange, students can gain new perspectives while developing their interest in Japanese language and culture.
Interactive Games Conclude Japanese Club UIB Meeting
Following the interaction and Art Switch Competition, participants took a short break before continuing with a question-and-answer session. The program then continued with the Guess the Song & Anime game as one of the final activities.
The game allowed participants to demonstrate their knowledge of Japanese songs and anime. After the game, the committee announced the winners of the activities held during the meeting.
The event concluded with a group documentation session. Overall, the First Meeting of Japanese Club UIB was designed to create an enjoyable environment while strengthening relationships among club members.
Through the First Meeting of Japanese Club UIB, students gained a space to connect, build relationships, and explore their interest in Japanese culture. At the same time, the participation of a Darmasiswa student from Japan enriched the cross-cultural experience within the UIB community.
Moving forward, this interaction may provide opportunities for Japanese Club UIB to develop language and cultural activities together with international students. Such activities can also support UIB’s internationalization efforts by creating opportunities for local and international students to interact directly within the campus environment.
Through student organizations and international activities, UIB continues to provide opportunities for students to learn, collaborate, and gain experiences beyond the classroom.
