International Webinar: “Women in Education Experiences and Expectations” by ASEAN Studies Centre UIB and Women Working Group

International Sharing Forum on Human Rights and Gender Series 9 with the theme “Women in Education Experiences and Expectations” successfully held by Universitas Internasional Batam. This webinar was held online on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 16.00 to 18.00 WIB via the Zoom Meeting platform.

The forum start with an opening address by the event coordinator, highlighting the importance of discussing women’s roles and experiences in education. Mrs. Ninne Zahara from the ASEAN Studies Center moderated the event, ensuring a smooth flow of discussions. The keynote speaker, Nukila Evanty from the Women Working Group, delivered an insightful speech on the challenges and expectations women face in the education sector.

The event featured several esteemed speakers from diverse academic backgrounds. Dr. Agustina Fitrianingrum from Universitas Sultan Agung (Indonesia) discussed the socio-cultural barriers to women’s education. Olgahan Baksi Yalcin, Ph.D. from Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University (Turkey), provided a comparative analysis of women’s educational experiences in different regions. Serene Dalati, Ph.D. from Arab International University (Syria), explored the impact of educational policies on women’s empowerment.

Nukila Evanty remarked, “Understanding the unique challenges that women face in education helps us create more inclusive and supportive environments for their growth.” Dr. Agustina Fitrianingrum added, “Addressing socio-cultural barriers is crucial for ensuring that women have equal access to educational opportunities.”

The forum concluded with closing remarks by Rina Shahrullah, Ph.D. from the Women Studies Center of UIB, who emphasized the need for continued efforts to advance gender equality in education. An interactive Q&A session allowed participants to engage directly with the speakers, providing valuable perspectives and fostering a deeper understanding of the experiences and expectations of women in education. The event underscored the significance of continued dialogue and collaboration in promoting gender equality in the educational sector.
