On July 22, 2024, the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) School of Law visited Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) to initiate a collaboration plan. The event commenced with a welcoming address by Ninne Zahara Silviani, S.H., M.H., the Secretary of the Master of Law Program Universitas Internasional Batam, who highlighted the significance of international partnerships in enhancing academic and research excellence. She emphasized that such collaborations are essential for broadening the scope of educational opportunities and enriching the academic experience for both faculty and students. The delegation from NYCU School of Law was led by Dean and Professor Chih-Hsiung Chen JSD (Thomas), who provided an overview of NYCU’s innovative legal education and its commitment to fostering global academic connections.
The primary objective of the visit was to explore potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions, focusing on joint research projects, student and faculty exchanges, and academic programs. During the discussions, Universitas Internasional Batam presented its current research initiatives, highlighting the university’s focus on practical and impactful legal studies. They also showcased their modern facilities designed to support advanced legal research and education. On the other hand, Dean Chih-Hsiung Chen JSD (Thomas) shared insights into NYCU’s global research contributions, innovative teaching methods, and its vision for future legal education.
Both parties engaged in detailed discussions about how their respective strengths could be leveraged to create a mutually beneficial partnership. They explored possibilities for joint seminars, workshops, and conferences, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of legal systems and practices across different jurisdictions. There was a strong emphasis on creating a dynamic exchange program that would allow students and faculty members to gain valuable international experience and exposure.
