Batam, 29 August 2026 — Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) welcomed representatives from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) for the Academic Discussion and PhD Engagement between UIB and UTeM 2026. The meeting took place at the Grand Center, Building A, UIB.
The activity brought together representatives from UTeM’s Faculty of Information Technology and Communication (FTMK) and UIB‘s Faculty of Computer Science.
Through this meeting, both universities exchanged ideas and explored new opportunities for academic cooperation. The discussion focused on collaborative research, academic mobility, and postgraduate study opportunities.
UIB and UTeM Explore Research Collaboration
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabrina Ahmad and Dr. Nurul Akmar Emran represented FTMK UTeM during the discussion.
One of the main topics was the Research Matching Grant. Both institutions discussed opportunities to develop new collaborative research initiatives.
UIB and UTeM previously conducted a Research Matching Grant collaboration. Therefore, the meeting also became an opportunity to explore ways to continue and expand this partnership.
The discussion highlighted the potential for researchers from both universities to work together on future academic projects.
Student and Lecturer Exchange Opportunities
UIB and UTeM also discussed opportunities for student and lecturer exchange programs.
Academic mobility can provide valuable international exposure for students and lecturers. Participants can experience different academic environments, broaden their perspectives, and establish international networks.
During the meeting, representatives from both universities exchanged ideas on possible mobility programs. These discussions support the wider effort to strengthen international academic engagement between UIB and UTeM.
PhD Engagement Opens Postgraduate Study Opportunities
Another important session focused on prospective PhD candidates who are interested in continuing their studies at UTeM.
UTeM representatives shared information with prospective doctoral candidates and faculty members who are currently pursuing PhD studies. The session allowed participants to learn more about postgraduate education and potential academic pathways at UTeM.
Through this engagement, prospective candidates gained a clearer understanding of opportunities to continue their academic journey.
The initiative also strengthened cooperation between UIB and UTeM in postgraduate education and academic development.
Faculty Representatives Join the Academic Discussion
UIB representatives included Tony Wibowo, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, and Yefta Christian, S.Kom., M.Kom., Head of the Undergraduate Information Systems Program.
Haeruddin, S.Kom., MMSI, Head of the Undergraduate Information Technology Program, also joined the meeting.
Several lecturers participated in the discussion, including Andik Yulianto, S.T., M.T., Li Cen, S.Kom., M.Kom.; Ni’matul Ma’muriyah, M.Eng., Logical Operation AIA, MCE; Stefanus Eko Prasetyo, S.Kom., MMSI; and Jimmy Pratama, S.Kom., M.MSI.
Theodesia Lady Pratiwi, S.Pd., M.Hum., International Cooperation Coordinator of UIB, also attended the program. Her participation supported the coordination of international academic cooperation between the two universities.
Structured Sessions Encourage Productive Discussion
The program began with a Research Matching Grant discussion from 15.30 to 16.30 WIB.
Afterward, prospective PhD candidates and faculty members joined a dedicated discussion from 16.30 to 18.00 WIB. Participants then continued the program with a dinner session from 18.00 to 19.00 WIB.
This structure gave participants enough time for formal academic discussions and informal networking.
As a result, representatives from both universities could exchange information and strengthen communication in a productive setting.
Strengthening International Academic Cooperation
The Academic Discussion and PhD Engagement between UIB and UTeM 2026 identified several opportunities for future collaboration.
Research Matching Grant initiatives can strengthen joint research activities. Meanwhile, student and lecturer exchanges can expand international academic mobility.
The PhD engagement session also created opportunities for postgraduate education and professional academic development.
Moving forward, both universities may further develop cooperation through collaborative research, academic mobility programs, and postgraduate study opportunities.
Through this engagement, UIB and UTeM reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening international academic networks and creating opportunities for mutual development.
